We’ve been packing something a bit different at Go Swag HQ this week. We’re delighted to be supporting Glasgow’s Spirit of Christmas (GSOC), a campaign to provide Christmas gifts to children affected by hardship or living in poverty in Glasgow and surrounding areas.
Nearly one in four children lives in poverty in Scotland, a figure which is only set to increase as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic (JRF 2021). GSOC works with partner organisations to deliver Secret Santa pledges to children who may otherwise receive no presents on Christmas morning.
We’re absolutely delighted to have been able to pledge 100 gifts to two organisations based in Maryhill and Springburn, areas local to our warehouse in Glasgow. From selection boxes to playdoh, cinema vouchers to new pyjamas, our team having been working all week to purchase, pack and label 100 Secret Santa gifts.
Almost 20,000 children have been referred to GSOC this year. Although, amazingly, 15,000 gift pledges have been received, this still leaves thousands of children awaiting a Secret Santa pledge.
